Air Commando History

For over 80 years, Air Commandos have embodied a legacy defined by courage, innovation, and unwavering dedication to mission and country. From their daring beginnings in World War II with the "Carpetbaggers" in Europe and the 1st Air Commando Group in the China-Burma-India theater, to their critical roles in Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm, and today's global operations, Air Commandos have been at the forefront of America's most pivotal military and humanitarian missions. Despite their profound contributions, they remain the only major U.S. Special Operations force without a dedicated facility to preserve and honor their history.
